About Us

More about us

'The best way to find yourself is to serve others'

Shibpur Sristi is a not-for-profit organisation based in Howrah that aims at catering to the needs of the underprivileged population of our society. It has been stretching out its helping hand to the poor and needy since its very inception and is well-deservingly lauded for its projects 'Shikshan' and 'Paridhan'. It has also offered remarkable service in the COVID 19 pandemic and the two consecutive cyclones that hit Bengal. Sristi has worked among the poor and indigent in the remotest hamlets scattered around West Bengal and it dreams of a society that is able to develop keeping pace with the mainstream population of the country.

Historical Background

How We started

Shibpur Sristi was the brainchild of a few college-going madlads from the neighbourhood Khurut in Howrah who had simply dared to dream of doing 'something' for the betterment of society (Kichhu korte hobe syndrome). Like most other legendary Bengali ideas, Sristi was also conceived in an adda (or, friendly gathering, if you please!). The name 'Sristi' was adopted from an eponymous cultural programme of ours back in 2013. What began as a small effort of merely 6 youths to alleviate the poor's suffering has emerged as Shibpur Sristi encompassing no less than 150 like-minded people who are simply driven by an urge to do good, to bring a change, and above all, to sustain that change for a better tomorrow. It is a regiestered organisation under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act, 1961. Benevolent Sristi has been rewarded with many accolades over the years.

Initiatives and Priority Programs

Apart from its regular work, Sristi plays host to numerous events and competitions throughout the year, such as sit-and-draw, collage, cultural functions, processions, to attract the youth and aware them of its work. Of all the campaigns, 'Shikshan' and 'Paridhan' deserve mention over anything else.

Shikshan

Among the impoverished population, education always comes last in the list of priorities. Therefore, it is no wonder that their children often leave school in medias res and begin working at a premature age. Their formative years are shaped by harsh reality and this leads to many unfortunate consequences. Shikshan adresses all these problems by offering them means of study and interest them into learning.

Paridhan

Clothes retain the minimal dignity of a human being. A man without cloth is perhaps something of an embarrassment to the face of humanity. Paridhan fills that essential void in the destitute's lives which can not be substituted even with a content stomach. New dress for Puja, warm wear for winter, used clothes for everyday use, we give it all.
